Boardstories - Animated Children's Books for the Primary Classroom

Onilo offers children’s books from different publishers as Boardstories. Boardstories are lovingly animated versions of children’s books that can be viewed over the internet.

The moving illustrations and text can be paused by the teacher at any time. Boardstories can be read on an interactive whiteboard or projected onto a screen thereby allowing the stories to be experienced together in schools or homes.

The Onilo Boardstory Player

Boardstory - Night Monkey, Day Monkey by Julia Donaldson

Onilo Boardstories can be played automatically or manually, with each text segment displayed for at least five seconds. Boardstories can be stopped at any time using the "Pause" button, and resumed by clicking on "Play".

You can navigate through the Boardstories yourself by clicking on "Next" or "Back." To do so, uncheck "Autoplay" (by clicking on the box).

You can interact with the Boardstories directly on the interactive whiteboard, or by using your computer mouse.

You can download the Boardstory Player Instruction Manual here.

Lots of Onilo Boardstories are also available as cliffhangers. These versions are slightly shorter than full versions and break off at the most exciting point, leaving the reader on a cliffhanger...

Boardstory cliffhangers end with a reference to the book where the ending of the story can be found. You can use the cliffhangers to get students to make up their own ending, or read the ending for themselves in the book, or you can view the full version of the Boardstory.

We recommend that there should always be at least one physical copy of the book in the classroom. This will support the students to compare their story ending with the actual ending of the book, next to the digital Boardstory.

Click on the desired Boardstory under "My Onilo", and then on "Start Cliffhanger Version."

Student Codes

When you buy an Onilo Library Pass, you have the opportunity to give your students access to a particular Boardstory by issuing them a Student Code.

To do so, simply click on the button "Generate Student Code" next to the desired Boardstory, under "My Onilo." You then inform your students of the code that is displayed.

Students can watch the Boardstory again at home after entering the Student Code on the Onilo start page.
